I have few beautiful die cuts in my stash. They are nice big in size and I really like them. The problem is that they are single pieces and I never have the heart to use them. I was admiring them today and decided to make a stencil out of them hoping to use them somehow on a project. And thatÂ’s what I used in this card.
The idea behind this card was to use my new flower stencil and have a gelsticks background. I canÂ’t remember why I regretted buying the gelsticks for the past 1 year. Lately I canÂ’t use them enough! I love the artsy backgrounds I can make with these.
Anyways, back to the card – I used gel sticks in blue and purple colors on acrylic block, spritzed it with water, placed the stencil on my cardstock and inverted the acrylic block on the cardstock. It didn’t give me the clear image of the flower as I was hoping for, instead I got color seeping in everywhere under the stencil. Once it was dried I used watercolor pencils to make a shape of the flower and colored it in with the same. I made long strokes with different shades of green, orange, yellow and red. Outlined the flower with black pen, made some doodle border and used decorative scissors on the edges.
Not what I had in mind when I started this card, but really liked how it turned out. The gelsticks give some shimmer as well and I really liked using the pencils to color.

I think it worked out really well! I love the background, and love the coloring technique you used on the flower. The doodled edges really highlight the black matting, altogether a lovely card!

GREAT how a mistake becomes a lovely end product, which is surely what happened here. I'm sure that shimmer from the gel sticks is gorgeous so I'm imagining it there and loving it! Looks truly like an slightly abstract paint...Van Gogh-ish!
