This 2 page LO is part of a VSBN Challenge where a sketch was provided. The trickiest part was finding the right size photos to match the sketch. In the end I improvised and made the LO as close to the sketch as possible with a twist so I could try out an old punch and a new stencil
As I've currently got a thing for mixed media I wanted to try and incorporate a technique on the LO, so out came a dinner plate used to draw a circle on the stencil. I'm not good with lines and it was the first thing that came to mind . Paste pushed through the stencil and inks sprayed. A bit of water sloshed on, a lot of dabbing and yep I could see a circle. Unfortunately the photo doesn't show the stencil well but its a french script and gives some texture.
After cropping my photos, I realised they didn't all fit and was starting to have a "doh" moment. Even more "doh" moments after checking my remaining photos to scrap wouldn't fit either. Now what? This was when I gave up and took up my other hobby.....reading.... Slack I know, but sometimes you need time to think
After revisiting the sketch I finally had one of my eureka moments.....just do the LO with what you have and make it as close to the sketch as possible. Now why hadn't I thought of that before....another "doh" moment!
My craft motto currently is to use what I have in my stash, so out came a punch that had not seen daylight for years. I really must start to use them more. Strips cut and photos laid on the beautiful paper.
Another craft motto....(and yes I know it's slack but time was passing me by)..... but why spend hours trying to choose papers, when they are all there already co-ordinated for you. Too easy.
The LO still wasn't doing it for me and I have another thing at the moment...it's called layering...so out came some scraps, torn, distressed and pushed behind the photos. Ah, that was better. Washi tape added.
It was at this stage that I asked a friend whilst at a craft day if I could use her Cuttlebug to cut out some label shapes. Some time later....in fact a very long time later...we finally had the metal die off her plates and I still didn't have my labels...."doh, doh, doh". By this time we both had given up and I finally read the instructions on my TH die. A lot of "doh's". (Note to self: Always take your Big Shot to Craft Days)
Was I ever going to get this LO finished? Fortunately hubby's and hammers come in handy and the die is somewhat back to normal and useable Phew.
Labels, hearts and circles cut. Lines stamped and sentiments (which came with the patterned paper pack) added. I've also got a thing for bling so out came the stickles when I realised that the stitched lines and circles gave it a Christmassy look...must remember that for when I actually do a Xmas LO...mmm.
Gosh it was starting to look like the sketch but I wish I'd stamped those lines on the 2nd page on the right, and why did I add more inks...the colour was ok as it was. "doh, doh, doh".
It may have taken me a week to complete this LO but I love the sketch and I think I just made life harder for myself, but isn't that what craft is about.....to try out different things and bring out our creativity?
Now all I have to do is go and flatten it out before it goes in the album.
Thank you for taking time to look at my LO. The process may have taken a long time, but it was fun.
Happy day

I love this LO! It is not only well balanced, it is so pleasing to the eye. I love all your elements. It was fun to read about your process, too. Thanks for sharing both.
