When I saw the Die Cut Masking Technique, I just had to try it with the Stampin' Up! Watercolor Pencils.
Using the Large Letters, I die cut the "LOVE" and placed on the Watercolor Paper. I then colored a dark line of Real Red and Melon Mambo Watercolor Pencil across the top. Using a Watercolor Brush, I pulled the color down from the top to the bottom creating a dark to lighter wash.
Next, I let the paper dry then added the large butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits. I repeated the process of adding more color at the top of the watercolor paper followed by drawing the color down with the paint brush. Next, I took the Rich Razzleberry Watercolor Pencil and rubbed it against sandpaper onto the wet paper to create speckles of darker color around the butterfly.
The finishing touches were to add the "You" and the little hearts.
