Try a New Technique #619: TLC619 ~ Everything Old Is New Again: Birthday Bash by StampingQueenJAR at Splitcoaststampers where the old technique I tried was Dry Embossing With Stencils (TLC570) which was the challenged featured nearest my birthday in 2016 (TLC570 ~ Dry Embossing with Stencils ~ {01/25/2016} by Cook22 at Splitcoaststampers.
I wanted to do something that's totally off-the-track from my normal stamping projects, so selected the embossing with stencils technique which I had never done before.
The theme for the TLC also included "Birthday Bash", so I started with the "Happy Birthday" stamp from SU's Perfect Pairings set, and looked for a brass stencil in my stash which had an opening large enough to accommodate it. That stencil had flowers, so I reached into my ink collection for a "floral" color and pulled out Melon Mambo! I wanted to feature a floral vertical strip behind it, per the GDP challenge, so looked for a "pinkish" color in SU's Sweet Pea DSP collection and found this lovely paper that had gray and orange it it.
So the card grew organically... I used the gray for matting the floral piece, and for the mandatory horizontal band that was as wide as the embossed piece I chose Calypso Coral from the DSP.
The card base is Melon Mambo to match the sentiment color. The cardstock is textured from Stampin' Up!'s 2009 In COLOR collection.
This card was definitely outside the box for me, but that's why we do weekly card challenges, isn't it??? |
