52 Christmas Card Throwdown #48-16: http://52cct.blogspot.co.uk/ which required that you select one of the previous challenges for 2016 and make a card to meet it - I chose paper piecing from the March 26th, 2016 technique challenge.
Much thanks goes to Precious Kitty (Jan) on Splitcoaststampers (https://goo.gl/iVxk45) for gifting me with the Poppystamps die cut row of houses used for this card. It was the perfect solution for adding depth perception to the scene I wanted to create! Thanks, Jan!
To create the foreground, I first stamped and die cut the houses using the Stampin' Up! Holiday Home bundle (matching dies and stamps) in the various colors required by the #GDP065 challenge. I then loosely arranged them on the Whisper White card front panel (to simulate a winter snow covering the ground) until the houses looked like I wanted them. I marked with a pencil the center of where I wanted the tall skinny houses in the back row, and used the matching die to cut holes for the houses to fit into. I used Scotch Tape across the back of the panel to keep the houses in place so they didn't fall out as I added the front row of houses.
The same process was used for the front row... I used the matching die to cut the house shapes through the inlaid tall skinny houses and Whisper White panel. Again, Scotch Tape was placed on the back side of the white panel before placing the houses into their respective die cut holes.
To add a festive flair, I use a small hole punch and cut out wreaths from SU Nordic Noel DSP, and glued them onto the doors of the front row of houses. The wreaths needed some trimming with scissors around the wreath bows. The wreaths were attached with liquid glue.
The sentiment was stamped on Whisper White cardstock in Real Red from the Holiday Home stamp set, and punched out with the SU Modern Label punch. I cut a scrap piece of Early Espresso cardstock into a square just a bit larger than the punched sentiment, and rounded it's corners with a punch. The sentiment was glued onto the brown matting, then the entire piece was attached to the main card panel using Adhesive Foam Strips.
The completed main card panel was then glued to the Real Red card base using Tombow Multi Liquid Glue.
I just discovered paper piecing this year, and really like the fact that you can make a "multi-layer" card only a single cardstock thickness to reduce bulk and minimize postage.
I rated this card a difficulty level of "4" because of the time and care it takes to plan out and position the houses for die cutting their "holes" on the main panel.
