I had in my mind that I wanted a less traditional "Christmas critter", and cardinals seemed perfect. They remind me of Christmas, but they also bring such glorious color to the snow-filled days of winter that seem to go on and on.
I knew I wanted snow in the scene, so I tried something on a piece of scrap cardstock that worked suprisingly well - I used the SU Softly Falling embossing folder, then put the embossed cardstock back through using the Woodlands embossing folder. It worked perfect! You can see a hint of snow falling in all the flat places on the card!!!!
Since I am a Stampin' Up devotee, I wanted to do the red cardinals with either a stamp or Framelit, but alas, after looking through my library of both, I couldn't find a single cardinal. There is a bird stamp/die in the Among the Branches bundle, but the bird wasn't the right shape, and I didn't care for the uniformity of using a single stamp, or the white outline the die left behind. So, I did something I RARELY do... I bought a set of Joylee's cardinal embellishments. The birds are so adorable, and were the right size!
I wanted snow drifts in my winter forest, so I tore Whisper White cardstock and layered them at the bottom. I used Wink of Stella to highlight the torn edges of the "snow banks" to compliment the glitter on the cardinals' wings.
The sentiment is from the SU White Christmas stamp set. I chose it because it is a very calm, peaceful sentiment for a card that I wanted to convey a quiet Christmas forest with only the call of cardinals to be heard.

I think these cardinals are just gorgeous. They make a wonderful pop of colour against the background. Nicely done! Thanks so much for playing along with 52CCT this week! Deborah, DT.
