It is Tickle a Teapotter time of the month and Sandy has given us a terrific "cooking competition" challenge.
Here we have Julia Child, complete with her hat and signature string of pearls. She has just concluded a master class on preparing her world famous beef bourguignon from her equally famous cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
I am very slow at prep work in the kitchen and my knife skills leave a lot to be desired...remember the time my knife got stuck in a pumpkin and I nearly knocked myself unconscious when the whole pumpkin whacked me in the head when i was trying to remove the knife...and then there was the time I sewed my hand inside a chicken. I digress; it took me 90 minutes to prepare the beef bourguignon followed by 6 hours cooking time!! DH thought it was a "nice stew", he is lucky to be alive!
Enough about me, here we have young Nigella and Heston. Nigella failed to impress Ms Child so she has to stand in the naughty corner (actually she was too tall so I chopped off the top of her head). Heston on the other hand has been rewarded with a chef's hat and immunity from next weeks challenge.
Nigella and Heston are both coloured with a Distress Crayon and my finger, I used a damp paint brush to get a tiny bit of colour around the edges of Nigella's apron. NOTE: If you own gelato's then you already have distress crayons LOL. Julia was from my stash, she was already coloured so I just added a hint more colour using a distress crayon and a copic marker.
The card design a pop-up diorama - Sabrina featured this fun fold last year (TLC522). I coloured a veggie garden scene and put it behind the window. The checkerboard floor was done with a black copic marker and fine marker. It is time consuming but a whole lot of fun.

Bon Appetit my friends.

Oh Susie, YOU ARE HYSTERICAL!!!! I love your sense of humor, digressions, and story lines!!! You have quite the imagination (and talent) to bring us into each "scene" you create!!! I love the whimsy of the pearls (you nailed Julia), the attention to details (garden window view), the checkerboard floor, the window swag.... I can go on and on.
TOO MUCH FUN!
Also, thank you for the tips and resource links.
I truly want to craft with you someday, it would be a hoot!

Oh dear - I didn't recognise Heston without his glasses - he must have gone in for contact lens. he he I bet that pumpkin was a Queensland Blue - they are notorious for capturing knives and not giving them back. Real tough buggers. I loved your story and tales - special about your knife skills. Mine are not much better - being left handed makes it only worse too. Knives are not made with left handed people in mind! Lots of lovely detail in this card - and so much to giggle over.

Oh Susie, I love your stories and love your card. If either of my boys say anything bad about my cooking they will be doing all the cooking and I will step away from the kitchen. I love to cook and love to look for new recipes to try. I love how you cleverly staged Nigella in the corner because she was too tall and love your wonderful garden coloring. Such a super fun card! Any teapotter is going to be thrilled to get this beauty!

Bon Appetit, Susie! A delightful "cooking class" card with your attention to the smallest details. BUT, it is your narrative that had me laughing this AM. You could do children's books single-handedly...both the writing AND the illustrations.

I am so glad you shared the real story behind this card - I thought they were going to perform some Scottish or Irish dancing! I wasn't thinking about kitchen floors at all. Great card as always and a wonderful story to match.

Oh my gosh! This is phenomenal, particularly the incredible amount of coloring! It reminds me of my son's home in the Catskills with the garden! The floor, curtains, coloring and colors are amazing Susie! Love those characters and LOVE those legs you create! Just too fun!

Susie you may be lacking in kitchen skills but you have an abundance of amazing card making skills! Where to begin....the checked tile floor....fabulous but I can't image all the patience involved in making it...your sous chefs are hilarious...love the cut off head! And what can one say about the legendary Julia Child..her accessories are perfect although I was looking for a couple of sticks of butter in her ensemble...perhaps it's all melting in the copper bottomed skillet already sauteing some chicken Cordon Bleu ( she probably consumed half a bottle of wine in preparing said dish)....Oh my gosh I love this card and your write up!

And you said you didn't have any suitable stamps! Your sure didn't need any when you could cook up a kitchen scene like this. Sheesh, Nigella, how shall we be kind, got a little more curvaceous as she matured, didn't she! AND, you did a fun fold. You get not just brownie points but brownies from my kitchen (I wish)...
I'll have to come back and look at this again when I have more time, but I didn't want to leave it as the only upload so far that I hadn't commented on.
