Good morning everyone. Lydia.....thank you so much for your simple tutorial. I can honestly say I learned more from your short and sweet lesson than from anything else I've tried. And I really took everything you said to heart.....no OCD.....no overworking or overthinking. And I'm actually pretty happy with my results. There is one thing I am always disappointed with when I use 'real' watercolour (in this case Winsor Newton). To me.....it alway looks so flat when it dries. I hear about and see in OTHER peoples work the brightness and translucence that is supposed to result from using watercolour....but I don't see it here. Criticism honestly welcomed.

Love, Love, Love the look! I know what you mean about others looking vibrant...took me awhile, but I recently got some good "color" on my backgrounds! I was giddy about it, I won't lie! I think yours looks vibrant...I also know some peoples look different based on the lighting when the photograph it and if they use any filters or "touch" it up! So don't get frustrated!

Soft and delicate, Jo....and very evident that your medium was watercolor.....the "juicy" look that I like. Hints: Unlike acrylics which dry darker, watercolors always dry lighter....so what might look garish at the moment seems to "settle down" when dry. Leaving white "space" for highlights helps keep a watercolor lively too. Overworking is the death of many a watercolor IMO.

Oh what you said makes me SO happy - thank you!
These are absolutely spectacular!!
As far as flatness/translucence goes, there are some colors with a lot of opacity. Draw a sharpie line on watercolor paper and paint over it little swatches - if you get a milky finish you'll know that color is opaque. I HIGHLY recommend Dawn Woleslagle's Online Card Classes Class - Watercolor Intermediate Techniques. You don't need to take the other one first. I learned SO much about transparency in the first day of this class!

I'm so glad you enjoyed doing this card....it is beautiful. You sure achieved the lovely loose water coloring. Hope we see more with this technique. TFS Fav'd
