I haven't uploaded in a long time. I miss being active here but life has shifted priorities a bit. A couple of weeks ago we visited my oldest DD, SIL and my oldest DS in Philadelphia where they're all involved in urban ministry, living in one of the poorer neighborhoods and just doing life. It sure isn't an easy life they've been called to, but it is a good one! We did a lot of walking around the city with its brick row houses, concrete and metal and unfortunately lots of trash, even in the nicer areas of the city. I have been thinking about them a lot and art just had to come from the experience. This was a "canvas " I picked up at a thrift store. It had two different colors of fabric stitched and stretched onto the square and had a ribbon across the join that I ripped off. I started with a layer of Gesso over the whole piece. I had a piece of city dp that I had already used part of. I tore it some more and started my collage with that. I used some white acrylic paint smeared around next. I forced some almost dried up homemade embossing paste through some wire mesh. After it was dry I rubbed some red paints and red inka rub over the raised area for a brick look. I went with black and brown as secondary colors and also dripped a little gold paint here and there. My "found items" are things that I picked up around my own town while walking the dog. I purposely watched for some blues and reds to add and bits of metal too. Once I'd finished the collage I painted on the lyrics to God Of This City which give me hope. "Greater things have yet to come and greater things are still to be done in this city. "

This is so special and filled with such love and compassion. It represents those things in your heart you know need attention. Having created this from your feelings and your home town should be precious to you. It's a work of art. How wonderful to know that you have 2 children involved in God's field. That makes an incredible statement as to who you are. God bless them in their endeavors.
