This is the valentine I will be giving to Mr. Wonderful this year. It evolved over eons, the polar ice cap is significantly smaller since I started it. It's the first card I have ever made that isn't an A2 card, and that was interesting. It's 5.5 X 5.5 - not that much bigger than A2 but sure felt like a lot more real estate. It also was a gluing nightmare, made even worse by my glueing it together in what was a stupidly illogical order. But okay. It's done. And in time for Valentine's Day.
That intricate square panel is from one of the Spellbinders Majestic/Exquisite die sets (the squares, obviously). If you have any of them, you will know that they are made to be used nesting inside each other and what you get depends on which ones you use together. Spellbinders has several videos proclaiming their surpassing beauty and showing you examples of lovely cards made with them, but none that instruct you on how to get them to cut properly and completely. I finally got to use that metal shim I bought from Cheery Lynn and this was definitely a cut and rotate ad nauseum operation. I love these dies, but working with them briefly caused me to consider getting a Vagabond, my cranking arm was getting that tired.
Thanks for looking and thank heavens I made a card, thereby justifying the existence of that room in my house crammed with crafting supplies. At least for a week or so.

Yup the old metal shim..it's quite a handy tool! That is a lovely die cut and congrats on making a non A2 card. You'll find that we card makers don't like to make square cards due to the extra postage incurred but since you'll be hand delivering this..that works ;) I love the green leaves (you rebel you had to throw in another color!). Very pretty and I'm sure it will be appreciated by Mr. W.

Oh, ha, I hear you totally on those Majestic things. I asked my Mr Wonderful for a rectangle set one Christmas, and it's such a pain I rarely use it. Square cards, on the other hand, I love! I'm glad that here there's no extra postage because I think I make more square than rectangular; welcome to the dark side. This is a fab Valentine's card to give to a guy, not fussy, great non-traditional colours but still a touch of romance. I always love the wistful expression on that girl's face.

Robin, this is fantastic! You have a wonderful way of layering on your card and this is a perfect example! I just loved your description! Laughed out loud as I read it. I think we were all at that point sometimes! Thanks for the chuckles!
