I just had to use Karen Dunbrook's Woodgrain Technique Again! Just like recipes...I always seem to change a few ingredients..lol. I made a few changes Karen, but kept mostly to your awesome technique.
I used W/C paper this time. I scored my paper every 1/4" then added thick gel medium instead of elmer's glue using a watercolor brush. Dried with heat tool. Then added Distress Inks using direct to paper technique and did not spritz. Just used a paper towel to spread and blend the inks that were very juicy. Dried with heat tool.
I did not score a 2nd time because I stamped the bird image so I would not have to fussy cut legs.
I fussy cut my bird image that I had watercolored with my Zig markers and attached with dimensionals. Made a little banner sentiment and sponged then added to popped up main image.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how my background and bird turned out....because of you Karen :-)
Even on a cloudy day my outside photo turned out much better than inside. The colors were true :-)
I really love how the distress ink colors grabbed onto the gel medium. All the darker browns were caused by the gel. The same would be true with glue! Cool Effect!

Awesome background. Just goes to show how creative crafters are ... trying different mediums to create a certain look. Great job with the gel, your woodgrain background is fantastic. Karen has us all trying this wonderful technique of hers. It's so fun to be inspired by friends! xx

oh Nancy....I love how this turned out. What I love even more is that you are all giving it a try and using different mediums to do it.
I have been playing as well and this time tried using some pigment ink instead of the distress. Gotta make a card with it now.
So happy you girls are having fun with it. Today, I think I stumbled onto another easy technique and will have to take some picks to do another tutorial...it turned out super cool (it isn't woodgrain)
hugs,
K
