For today's TLC554, Joan asked us to watercolor paper and then make a die cut(s) from it to use on our card. I am still in the Halloween/fall mindset, however, I just got Kim's new PS Merry Christmas die yesterday and I decided to use it. Are you shocked? I am. Seems like I never get around to using most of my new stuff til after I have it for one to six months! LOL Why aren't you laughing??? YOU KNOW you do that, too!
To make my paper I cut a small pc of Canson 90# smooth watercolor paper. From bottom to top, on my Ranger non-stick craft sheet, I swiped ripe persimmon, worn lipstick and festive berries. I misted my Canson paper* with water and pressed it onto the ink. Lifted it, lightly blotted it, then with a swirly motion pulled it through a couple more times. Lightly blotted it again. Let it dry for a couple minutes then misted my hand and flicked water droplets onto the paper. Let it sit a minute to spread the ink. Lightly blotted it again. Dried it with heat tool. Added two-sided sticky tape to the back of the inked paper and die cut my PS sentiment.
Using the scraps, I used my 1/4" SU circle punch to cut "berries" for my pine branches.
Stamped the branches in archival coffee, then evergreen bough. Adhered the sentiment which was a little tricky cause that sticky sheet really stuck--to my fingers and/or the end of my Quickstix tool! Placed the berries then adhered them with Ranger glossy accents. Also glossed the dot over the "i." Set aside to dry (it was humid here and it took about an hr for the glossy accents to dry.) Adhered the panel to my base with two sided foam tape.
THANKS for looking!
*Note: When I want a more vibrant color I do not mist the distress ink and the paper, just the paper. Doing so results in more rich-looking colors. It also allows you to get more variation of tones when you add droplets of water to distress it. I've tried laying down the re-inkers with a brush and doing this but the color doesn't "spread" the way I want it to. Using the stains made it too light for my taste and paint made it too gloppy.
