Today is a BIG day for me. No, no, no...my children are still minions on a seek and destroy mission, looking to demolish my home and sanity, and the DH is still carrying on his affair with his golf clubs, but STILL-this is a GLORIOUS day!
Above, you will see the FIRST....and I mean the actual FIRST 3D project that I designed from scratch and created ON MY OWN! That's right, no tutorials and no measurements. Just a picture I saw on a website all in Portuguese and nary a translation to be found.
**NOTE** I'm pretty proud of myself for figuring out the actual language. I first thought it was Russian, but noticed it didn't have those strange symbols/figures mixed in with letters. I was even MORE confounded because one of the women in the ad was blonde and the other, Asian. At that point, I'm thinking "I'm pretty sure there aren't a lot of Asians in Russia. And the language these 2 are speaking seem to have some Spanish words here and there. Oh, to Hades with it. Give me Google Chrome. Chrome then offered to translate from PORTUGUESE to English and I was STOKED over my new detective abilities. Give me coffee, wine and Google Chrome and I will OWN this world! Okay, that MIGHT be an overreach. Just give me coffee and wine and we'll forget this all ever happened in the first place. **END OF NOTE**
But I liked the idea of the tilting drawer (I hadn't seen many-if any-in the crafting sites I frequented) and it just so happened that G45 was having a storage challenge for Feb, so I figured 'game on'!
For the record, I'd never entered any G45 challenges. Being on the G45 DT is on my GOALS list, and I'm planning to give it a shot in 2016. I didn't feel 100% ready this year because, even though I feel like I'm decent when it comes to ability to construct 3D projects, my lack of creating and designing my own work was a weakness I felt I had to work on. But this G45 challenge gave me a kick in the rear-end and VOILA! I did it.
I thought about doing a tutorial as I went along, but to be honest, I had NO idea how it was going to turn out. Better to give it a try, first. Besides, I'm not good at doing those magic foldy things that morph into a complete project without any effort. Every bit of mine was gluing chipboard and reinforcing it with the 1 inch stabilizer strips on either side. In short, piece by piece.
Of course, now that I know I can do this, my next step will be an actual tutorial. This will be difficult for me because creating an effective tutorial demands attention to detail. And for most of you who know me, well, nuff' said.
So I'm heading off to celebrate my accomplishment. Ok...I can't lie to you. My 'celebration' consists of Cocoa Krispies and coffee, with a few (hundred) Tootsie Rolls for desert. Then, when all the sugar hits and I'm climbing the walls like Spiderman, I'll see if I can focus that sugar rush on a new project. If you DON'T hear from me, then you'll know that I've crashed and there will be nothing useful coming from me until my pancreas is finished working the overtime it'll take to stabilize my blood sugar.
Thanks again for stopping by! Next month is my last on the SCS Dirty Dozen DT and I'll have ALL sorts of time to (annoy) spend with you!
Good luck with that.
heh, heh

Graphic 45 is going to LOVE this project of yours! I sure do! Plenty of storage space for the little things I usually have lying around on my table that get buried under things and make them impossible to find!! Oh, I can see washi tape stored clear across that tilting drawer, and all the cups on top for all KINDS of must-have-available tools! Great job!

Carmen, this is AWESOME! You should be proud - very proud! I have enough trouble trying to cut a straight line, all the measuring, etc. on this would have had me tearing my hair out. G45 should be so lucky to have you!

I MISSED this one! Holy Toledo what a fabulous design and functional! This is amazing and I do love the tilted drawers. I can't even begin to imagine crafting and designing a project like this. You take it to new levels!
