Ever have a card evolve and as you watch it happen you realize you've just poured your heart onto paper? My DH and I have decided that our word for the year is "trust." We have had a lot of obstacles come our way the last year and without our faith I don't know where we'd be.
Back to the card ;) I started out trying a technique where you put tissue paper shapes down and wet them, but it needed to be bleeding tissue paper and only a couple of my colors ran and then only faintly. So, back to the drawing board, I decided to stencil Gelatos and then spritz them to make them run. I used a stencil I'd made myself with the hexagon punch and a sheet of acetate from packaging. I dry-rubbed the Gelatos with my finger first to spread the color and intensify it, and then spritzed with water. I wanted a bit more variation so I spritzed again and then laid down some pretzel salt to dry on the wet inks. Once dry, I brushed off the salt. I then used my Honeycomb ef to mimic the hexagon shapes (repeat repeat repeat!) but used the stencil on an angle and in a couple of different positions to hit different areas. I rubbed the embossing with silver ink then cut out some of the edges and then distressed with my tool. At this point I had no thought of where I'd go next but remembered a card base I'd made a while back where I'd inked my ef and debossed the front of the card. As I was digging this base out, I saw the umbrella man and thought he'd look good with the bg. I had cut him from a dictionary page, positioning so that half of him was blank page. I pressed my petal inks along the edges and on the umbrella. When I laid him over my hexagons, I realized that I'd formed a sort of rainbow and that brought my trust word to mind. I had some letters already embossed so I punched them out (had to make one more set to finish my word stamping then embossing in black). I then took a black marker and added more words of faith and trust along my blank edge. I also added faint words in light grey inside many of my honeycomb spaces. This one will go on display in the house to remind DH and I of our commitment to put our trust in God in the midst of all the stressful life circumstances in which we find ourselves. Gail, this caught my eye right away...and when I read your description, I saw why. Cards from the heart seem extra special. I am so glad you are going to keep this one...it is so inspirational. All of your techniques worked so well together and the result was this incredable card. I hope this year is better for you and your family.

The distressed feel really signifies a period in life where we get beat up, but those words, and trust, remind me to just hang on and it will get better. What a fabulous piece to keep your eye on the prize. I love it! Thanks for playing the mix challenge!
