Oh, lookie lookie!! SOMEONE has decided to drop the 'tortured artist in self-seclusion' role and decided to play with others again!
To be TOTALLY honest, I'm putting in some OT on Dirty Dozen projects because I have my final carpal tunnel surgery on Nov 11th. And I MIGHT have FORGOTTEN to mention it to Lydia when she asked me to join the dirt pile.
Oh, please...like ANY of you would've!!! Are you kidding??? What did you think I was going to do...say "Hey! Look, I've got CT surgery coming up on my right hand and I think it'll be better for you to ask me again in December or January."???
Let me explain something to those of you who actually think that the above is the 'correct' answer. When you get the invite to join the Dirty Dozen, you spend pretty much every second of the day-and all the days forward-completely convinced that Lydia made a mistake. She either got the names mixed up or got your name and the artwork of a truly talented Splitcoaster interchanged and you're desperate to step up your game before she figures out her mistake.
SO-I'm finishing up my Nov projects and will have over 3 weeks of healing before my Dec projects have to begin. And so, not missing a beat, Lydia will never know that she transposed my name and the work of the many people here that have more talent in their fingernail clippings than I have in my body.
And I have a LOT of body.
I was pleased to find the Spirelli technique took longer for me to learn to pronounce than it did to master it. Naturally, I started with twine on a die with smaller scallops and, after some twine slippage and mild to moderate profanity, I figured it was time to find a better scalloped oval. Which I did. I was going to do the twine again and thought "I wonder what would happen if...."
**NOTE** Every incredibly good and bad thing in my life has begun with that sentence. You'd think I'd learn to stop uttering it, but I'm pretty stalwart. Or stupid. Take your pick. Anyway, in this case, I finished the sentence with 'used pearls and made an ornament'. Fortunately, it was a successful endeavor. And I know that it was due to the lack of sirens racing toward my house.
Back to the ornament, I used glue dots to secure the pearls in the back and, when done, secured only 2 or 3 as close to the back outer edge as I could get. That way, when I cut another chipboard ornament, cover it with gold glimmer paper and adhere it to the back, I can push that little bit up into the scallop that I'll put a ribbon through to hang it and the back will be flush. At least THAT'S how it's playing out in my head.
Sabrina, KUDOS on this challenge! Sabrina is one of the hardest working volunteers here at SCS and if you EVER have a question, she's got the answer. I swear that child has a photographic memory. But she is INVALUABLE to all of us. Big hugs and much love, Sabrina! TY!

Well wow - once you figured out how to pronounce Spirelli and what it was, you really rocked this, Carmen! It looks totally fabulous and will shine on any tree it adorns. You're making me think it would be fab for Easter, too - this reminds me of those beautiful little diorama sugar eggs too - don't ask why!!
Inspired idea to use the pearls - and do you know something...I just found a string of tiny pearl beading when I tidied my ribbon box the other day. It's been MIA for years.
I finally baptised my penguins too - you'll see them later this week . Big thanks!!

OMG! I just a had to see this and then I could not stop reading on your description. You had me hooked at, "Oh, lookie lookie!!" because all great stories start with those words...right? I love it what a fantastic ornament. And you are right, Sabrina is one incredibly hard working volunteer.

WOW! Gorgeous! Not only do I love the look of this fabulous design but the idea of what to do with the pearls on the back of it! Your poinsettia is so perfectly formed and absolutely beautiful! Thanks again for another chuckle!

I love how your brain takes you places no one has gone. I've never seen spirally done with anything like this. It is gorgeous.
Best of luck with the CT surgery.
