I was inspired by this Neil Diamond portrait on today's awesome inspiration site Fine Art America. I knew I wanted to go in the music direction because I'd prepared my pin-up yesterday for the Mixability Challenge. I had the song, "Song Sung Blue" on my mind anyway so when I saw a blue Neil Diamond it was decided for me! I started by laying my pin up guy down (the challenge is to cut out a magazine picture and cover it with ModPodge to make a silhouette mask) and spritzing over it. I also made some dots of glitter glue. I then traced around my pinup with a blue marker. I also sponged with my petal shape chalk ink along the edge of my singer. I made a quick reverse mask and then laid this down over my already spritzed bg. I then rolled my wheel in my distress ink and wheeled within the reverse mask. I spritzed all of this with water to cause the ink to bleed a bit. I then took my ink and smooshed onto acetate and added some water. I then watercolored along the outer edge and to give some distinction to where his hand and arm would be. I wasn't sure what to do for a sentiment when I spied the black lettering already made in my scrap pile (stamped in versamark and embossed in black) I used my 1/4" punch to punch out my letters. Before I glued to my base, I ran my darker blue petal ink along the edge to give some distinction. I had previously used a lighter blue along the edges. Fun technique with the magazine mask....wish I had my Gelatin plate which would have been easier to play with.
