I'd made the pop-up part of this type of card before, without having the flaps that make it look like an open box. So I've been waiting for a chance to try this format - and my half-sister's 60th birthday seemed like a good chance to try it. As always with my first attempt at something I'm still getting a feel for how it works, but I was happy with this.
Base cut from Bazzill. For the outside I used PTI papers, and added a sentiment from Hero Arts, cut and layered with Labels 1. I kept the outside plain as a contrast to the party inside .
Inside I used kraft paper stamped with Hardwood. The two side flaps are just stamped in black - Happy Birthday on one side, and just a swirl to balance it out on the other side. For the front I used a sentiment from Inkdinkado's Bird Assortment, and layered it up.
Owls cut from Bazzill and scraps. One has a bunch of balloons - I used 28 gauge beading wire for the strings so they "float". I used party hat stickers for the front two owls, and for the one perched up higher on the branch, I used a TH crown cut down to be narrower, embossed with gold EP and with gems added. At the back I added a banner with twine and cocktail sticks.

I'm about to try this technique and searched around for some inspiration. Since I LOVE owls, this called out to me- Hoot, hoot, pick me! Ha, just love this.
