This is for Ways to Use It #481 and also this week's Teapot Challenge, both of which required feathers. I looked at both challenges as they were posted and thought I'd give them a miss, but this morning I started playing around with my PTI Feather Finery set (while I was waiting for the glue to dry for this week's MIX challenge, which now probably won't get done). And ended up with a card.
Feathers were embossed in white on vellum, cut using matching dies and then adhered to card using my Xyron. Bird was stamped on VV, cut out, then sponged with various Distress Inks. This is as close to a CAS card as I ever get (all you CAS people can stop laughing now). I did want to put more stuff on it, and I kept hauling out stuff to try, but my Fairy Cardmother stayed my hand. "Enough," she said, "just take a picture and call it a day. Oh, and clean up this mess in here."
Thanks for looking!

Ah yes - the glue drying was certainly a retarding factor in the MIX challenge, especially when I was over-generous with my glue first time round on a second card. At least glue-gun glue dries pretty quickly!! I love your white feathers on vellum - I've seen several vellum feathers for the WT and it's something I'll have to try. And I also really like the flourishes leading the eye into the bird oval. It makes me think of a cameo brooch (yes, I know the colour is wrong, but that's still what it makes me think of, I think it's because it has an intaglio look, and probably the double black lines for the oval frame).

YOU are TOO funny, Robin! I love the design on this, the white embossed feathers as a background to your focal image! What wonderful, bright colors you used in your layout with the skewed panels!

Great idea to use vellum for your feathers..they look absolutely wonderful on the dark bg (and using the cut out feathers you don't get excess white ep on the bg..smart). The white really makes for a striking design paired with your aqua and chartreuse panels. A well thought out and executed card (and I think your instinct to leave it and not add anything extra was right) ;)
