This card was made for today's Inspiration Challenge. We went to this cool site AIGA Design Archives. I pulled up a poster on my IPAD, but could not get the same page to pull up on my computer and the IPAD does not give the specifics on the page, but I was able to link to this:
and the inspiration I used is the fourth one in on the second row. It is probably hard to see the connection from my sample because a lot of the elements got covered in the final project. I used the colors from this project as well as co ordinating with this week's color challenge. I also used this week's sketch challenge and the Ways to Use it challenge to use wind, which is present in my choice of image and in the sprays I used on the project.
I started with a magazine page that I adhered to a piece of card stock and then painted with gesso. I dried and sanded this and stamped the Old World Map. I added Baja Breeze, So Saffron and Sahara Sand inks to this. The printing was still apparent at this point. Then I sprayed with Glimmer Mist which sadly caused my ink to run. So I blotted this and dried it and Sprayed it with an Fixative and then sprayed on some Walnut Stain to distress it. I sanded some of this off. By now most of the printing was obscured. I still can't seem to get that quite right.. I stamped the log page from The Open Sea set onto Sahara Sand CS and Sponged on ink. I stamped the sailing vessel and colored it with copic markers and distressed it and added Walnut Spray. I also sprayed a piece of So Saffron DSP with both Walnut Stain and Glimmer Mist. I used Early Expresso and Gold as neutrals in this piece.
I have inky fingers and a very messy desk now, but I had fun! Time to go clean up!

Kathy, this is an outstanding masculine card and WOW on your techniques! I'm not sure what you referred to about not getting it right though. The distressed look is fabulous!

All of your work paid off. This card is stunning. It has such an old feeling to it, like it belongs in a nautical museum. Great use of the challenge colors and layout.
