This is primarily for Ky's monochromatic MIX61 challenge, but I also used the current sketch (added ribbon), Jeanne's F4A to use circles for our background, and my own WT from last week - buttons .
OK, I think this really needs gold. But, I did stick to Ky's brief to use as little white or black as possible, using black for my sentiment. I confess I didn't make a major effort to learn about colour gradations, I was jut happy to get a card made today.
So, when I was making some wrinkle free distress for a card I'm still working on the other day, I discovered that my new white card isn't very good for it. It's too absorbent, and the inks go straight into it without mixing. The piece of card I used for my flower panel was a second piece I tried just to make sure this wasn't a once off. It wasn't...I'll have to find more white card!! This is one of my most-used techniques for backgrounds. So - I cut the oval, stamped my flower in Versamark and embossed with Cobalt ep. I stamped over it in Chipped Sapphire using Aida, and then stamped Gorgeous Grunge inked up with pale blue Liquid Pearls, and blue Stickles. I rubbed the edges with more Chipped Sapphire and then used a glaze pen to add definition.
For the tabs at the top and bottom I punched the Round Tab Punch from the same scrap of paper, but after embossing it with the Square Lattice ef I sponged heavily with Chipped Sapphire and then embossed with clear EP.
For the base - I had this button ef out in case I could use it for the WT last week. I used white card with two blues added direct to paper (faded jeans, broken china) and then misted it with Perfect Pearls Blue Patina. After embossing I wiped some of it with Versamark and dusted it in parts with Perfect Pearls. (DH could tell you it's "shiny" in parts, LOL). The edge is defined with Sakura stardust and glaze pens. I added ribbon in two blues - and I see I accidentally pulled them over each other on the lefthand side on my way down the ladder to take a photo. Consider them pulled apart a tiny bit to match the right.
To finish off I added buttons cut, again, from the wrinkle-free distress. I added two coats of EP, then some Perfect Pearls and another coat of EP which I deliberatly overheated so it bubbled a bit to give a vintage look. They're tied with some light blue embroidery floss.

I wish I could see this in person...it is so pretty. Love all the creativity that went into this. You definitely win for the most patience. I am sticking to the simple stuff since my patience seems to be on holiday lately. Your monochronatic blues are beautiful and the textures are amazing.

This is so pretty and makes me feel cool. I love all the little details. Try a really thin layer of gesso on your white cardstock and see if the blending works better. It will yield a bit of a pastel look, or you can try clear gesso for more vibrant colors. Love the look of buttons repeated throughout the piece. Thanks so much for playing my Mix-Ability challenge!
