This is craziness I know. I have been experimenting with new things and need some help. Like what's the difference between mod podge and gesso? When do you use which? I also tried gelatos and have trouble using them with a template. I also tried to water some down and make a spray. Maybe that worked better on the first one. Lots of trials and errors today - mostly errors. Thanks for looking anyway and any helpful tips would be appreciated. :>)

I feel your frustration Kim! I think this is so interesting! Kudos to you for persisting. Modge Podge is more like a glue or protective coating. That is as much as I understand. I use gesso to tone things down but it also prepares any paper to accept any media. I know nothing about gelatos since I have done very poorly at watercoloring. Have fun experimenting!

How exciting that you are trying new things. Love what you came up with here. Very artsy......now about the gesso, modge podge thing. Not sure of the exact terminology but I use gesso for sealing my cs, makes a good base. Modge podge is more like a gel medium for gluing or sealing things on. At least this is how I understand it. Hope this helps a little. hehe Fine card today, keep up the experimenting! TFS :0)

I think your card turned out great! I do not use Gelattos so I can't help much on that either! Experimenting is half the fun but I do understand your frustration as I have some days where I don't feel like anything is working out the way I envision!

Your card is very artistic! And I think you did a great job. I am with you on frustration I do not mix media very well because I don't know much about it. But I sure have fun trying!

I think you did a great job on this..I love the colors and the mix of patterns you used. . I am by no means an expert at mixed media but I find that playing around with different "supplies"helps. When I'm making something I usually make more than one bg or make a large piece of paper and use scraps to apply different media to see how they react with what I already have,,make sense? So if I apply gesso to a book page...I might try gelatos or colored pencils, etc...that way I can see what works best and what doesn't work so well. Keep at it..I think having fun is a big part of it

I think I had similar feelings about today's MIX Challenge, or mix challenges in general. But having said that I also know from years of stamping that making mistakes will teach you more than doing it right (whatever that is). The things we try and "mess up" push our boundaries and that is really what ART is about. It is how we discover things we love and things that resonate with our souls! You probably won't love everything you try, but love the process and it will fill you up!

My advice is to keep making beautiful cards like this one! Whatever you did, it looks lovely.
Gesso = a kind of primer paint, usually white, that gives you a good base for other media but can also be used alone / Mod Podge = a clear glue or sealer.

Understand your frustration, but so glad you keep trying! When it feels right to you, you are gonna love mixed media! And gelatos are like watercolor in lipstick form - fun to play with! There's lots of You Tube videos about them, that's how I learn just about everything these days!
And this is not hideous! It's fun!
