After watching the great monoprinting tutorial by Julie Warner, I was inspired to attempt this challenge. My brayer has gone to live in that big craft room in the sky, so I had to improvise. I got a sausage out of the freezer and wrapped cling wrap around itÂ….worked a treat.
Using the sausage, I spread Momento ink over a big plastic bag. In the tutorial Julie used a “combing tool” to make an effective pattern, hmmm need to improvise again so I went outside and picked a lemon that had lots of dints and rough skin. I randomly pressed the lemon onto the ink covered plastic and then pressed white cardstock onto the plastic bag.
I then repeated the process with several distress inks. To make it mixed media, I spritzed it with Dylusions ink spray and then did a bit of stenciling. The silvery looking pattern is actually white Brilliance ink, I pressed the ink pad directly on to the lemon then randomly stamped the lemon onto the paper.
The tree stamp didnÂ’t stand out much so I went over all of it with a black Aqualip pen. The little girls were cut from an old sheet of pre-coloured images (brand unknown). It is my nieces 30th birthday today, so I hand wrote the words and propped the words and little girls up with foam tape.
Thank you for lookingÂ…..I am off to clean up, this may take a while. Saying mixed media isnÂ’t messy is a bit like saying you can go to a craft show and not buy anything LOL.

This has just made my whole week! Adds another meaning to sausage roll.
Your background paper is so lush, gorgeous. It was well worth the layers and improvisations to get to it's completion. All the other elements are fantastic. Such a great card.
I'm so glad I got to see this in the gallery!

Susie, you achieved an awesome bg with these fabulous colours and your improvised tools - I never would have imagined reading about a sausage being used on a card LOL!! Great thinking, though, with both the sausage and lemon!! Your niece will love this beauty!!

You have that mind in overdrive...thinking of using a sausage and lemon. Well, you got the job done and I must say it turned out to make a super duper background. Very well done and your niece will love it.

Oh...where to start. I love EVERYTHING about this card. I got lost on the bkg technique, and I never can do your cards as well as you do. The sentiment is perfect and I love the silhouette style tree. Great idea about the sausage and lemon-sounds like you could whip up a good meal after making the card.
