Body – I was inspired by a photo of Frida painting her own body cast while she was in the hospital.
I used Sculpey clay with an art mould and baked in the oven. She was ready in about 15 minutes. Art lovin' from the oven is my favorite kind. Hee hee The flowers and foliage were achieved with rub-ons. A little “surgery” to make her fit and she was ready.
The Hand – Somewhere around here there is a poor little dollar $tore dolly with a missing arm. The hand was cut off (ouch) and sealed in a mini glass bottle ready to hang.
Wings – The wings are embellished with seed beads and glitter. Lots of it! Be sure to use a strong glue. I used a generous amount of Glossy Accents, added the beads and finally a generous helping of glitter on top to fill in all the tiny spaces. The glitter doesn’t show well in the photo, but she’s nice and sparkly
I really admire this artist the more I learn about her. HereÂ’s a brief bio, but I highly recommend you look her up on the internet for more information.
Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 - July 13, 1954)
was a Mexican painter, who has achieved great international popularity. She painted using vibrant colors in a style that was influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico as well as by European influences that include Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits that symbolically express her own pain.

Not only is this amazing art on its own, but the fact that it tells a story about Frida's life makes it even more beautiful! Adding the torso to represent her body cast -- what perfect storytelling with your art. And that unibrow -- LOVE it! I wish I had signed on for this swap, but what are the chances I'd get Frida in my returns? I'll just admire her from afar and tell you how awesome you are!!
