Ok... maybe blowing through the straw and getting light headed can be my excuse... or may be it is shihnihbiteen. A Navajo word that is associated with the tradition of purposely putting an imperfection in art to keep from going insane. Ok That works. I started playing with this challenge early this morning. I started with my watch card, but really didn't like it. (More like hated it) so I started the butterfly card. I was really liking how the butterfly and music was all coming together. I was a little light headed trying to blow watercolor paint with my straw. I even thought that I would combine it with the F4A181 which is to make a back to school card. I decided to make a card for my friend who is an often overlooked teacher. She teaches middle school band. I was even going to use the Mojo sketch from Monday. Everything was going well until I started assembling the card. I figured out that I put the oval and butterfly upside down. So if you look closely you will see the upside down music notes in the left hand corner. Those were supposed to be in the right hand top corner. So much for the imperfection keeping the artist from being insane. I think if you ask my husband who was laughing at me blowing through the straw... I'm already there. I think my friend will like it imperfections and all. Oh my watch card... I went back and finished it and actually like how it turned out. The colors also work for A Mixed Media Color Challenge 5

I didn't even notice the upside-down music - I think because everything is at different angles, it looks like you rotated it on purpose. I'm sure your friend will love it! I love the deep contrast of the black distressing and the pretty COOL colors on the butterfly wings. I'm glad you didn't give up on this!

I love this MariLynn!!! Gorgeous!! I like how it has an overall black and white look and the butterfly is the only real thing colored. Very artistic!! I like the musical items also.

Your sense of humor is as fabulous as your talent! What a WOW card! That splash of brilliant colors against the black and white is definitely a WOW factor! I also have a lot of upside down things (including inside the card when in a hurry.)

MariLynn, I saw your cards a little earlier this afternoon, and wanted to come back to comment. I think this card is just fabulous! And the music note doesn't look abnormal to me. It looks just like it should for this piece. It is definitely a favorite for me.

I personally think it looks great; and you should be light headed over the fabulous way it turned out (besides from blowing through the straw, of course!). Seriously, I love the card and the subtle coloring that stands out with the black. I think your friend will love this!
