Thanks to Mary Ann who put the idea of using a story during the creative process. I had several technical issues and many failed attempts. This is far from what I originally set out to create but I sure had fun experimenting and the story helped make it possible to get past the difficulties.
Baby SuperJen loved her airplane. Most mornings found her sitting there happily eating breakfast while watching Sesame Street. Even though she loved the Cookie Monster, she found herself growing tired of the same old routine and one day set off for the City of Lights. It was springtime in Paris, the most beautiful time of year. She ate crepes, baguettes and even tried escargot. Though in her case, hearing they ate snails in France, she plucked one off a rock in the Bois de Boulogne (she is, after all, a baby). She toddled through the gardens, popped in to the Louvre to ponder the Mona LisaÂ’s smile, and bought her mommy a beret. After viewing La Tour Eiffel , she said Adieu, got back on her plane and headed home, taking the scenic route of course.
I started with a playing card, altered with sheet music and tissue paper. I used contact paper image transfer to apply the vintage postcard to the background. Topping it all is a transparency. The layers where then stitched together by hand with cotton pearl. Sorry for the terrible photo. ItÂ’s hard to get a good one when the top layer is shiny.
I had planned to make four different cards for this slot, each one showing Baby SuperJen in a different spot, only this one took me so long I simply ran out of time!!!
