The CAS challenge this week is Summer Fun - a tough challenge for me as I don't have any stamps that fit the traditional idea of summer fun. So I went with this instead - my ideal summer is doing what the sentiment on my card says - "take time to enjoy the simple things in life". And my background shows some of them - enjoying the flowers, the birds, the cherries.
For the background, I used a technique I learned in a class recently - covering the top printed layer of a paper napkin with melted beeswax and a craft iron to stiffen it (and give it a lovely aroma!). I then edged it with white and gold acrylic paint, attached it to my card base, added some pearls to the flowers, and then mounted my sentiment panel (also edged in gold acrylic paint) on dimensionals.

Hi Susan. This is gorgeous. What a fabulous technique! I remember back many, many years ago when paper napkins were used to decoupage onto wicker baskets ... do you remember that??!! There are so beautiful napkins and this is a great way to use them ... although I could see myself burning my fingers with the wax

This is one gorgeous card. I am fascinated with your background technique and can only imagine the wonder smell of the bees wax. This one is in my favourites for sure.

This is sooo pretty Susan ... I have 'felted' napkins using plastic wrap but never heard of using beeswax - sounds a great way to make dp, is there a tutorial somewhere???
Love your sentiment ..... sounds good to me

This is gorgeous, Susan. I snagged a particularly pretty paper napkin at a luncheon recently thinking I must be able to do something with it! Maybe I can figure out your technique. I also have that sentiment stamp and am always trying to figure out how to use it because of it's long orientation and it's large size. Putting your card into my faves!

Beautiful, beautiful card Susan. Your background is stunning and reminds me a bit of my MIL's willoware china. Congratulations on being a CAS Favourite :-)
