Last Friday's Mixability Challenge was Yin Yang Part II, to make a card using a rough texture/media and a smooth texture/media. About the only thing I can say about my card is that it is different.
I die cut and punched the swirls and butterflies from some lightweight cardboard (heavier than cs), glued them all to a piece of white cs, then painted over everything with Gesso. After that dried, I lightly painted it all with watered-down blue acrylic-paint. I dabbed at the wet paint with a textured paper towel, leaving those cool marks on the bg.
After the acrylic paint dried, I sponged the edges and over the diecut and punched pieces. (I think my blue distress ink would have looked better for the sponging.) Meanwhile I had punched the same butterflies from magazine and calendar pages, then covered them with Glossy Accents. I tried to prop them so they would dry with a little curl. After they dried, I attached them to the card with just a dab of Glossy Accents in the middle.
Obviously all the bg stuff is the "rough," while the glossy butterflies are the "smooth." This is definitely out of my comfort zone and different from my usual style (whatever that is!) I enjoyed making the card, and am pleased with the results. I'll have to remember that bit about using the paper towel for texture.

Oh baby, jump out of your comfort zone as often as you can! This is one gorgeous texturized beauty! I'm really new at mixed media, too, but let's see how much fun we can have with it!

Val, this is fantastic! Love all the processes you went through - and I really like the darker ink. I think it adds another dimension. Great job getting out of your comfort zone!

Awesome work with the mix17 challenge. These challenges certainly put me out of my comfort zone but I sure enjoy them. Wish I could remember from week to week all the techniques everyone uses so I could try them. Yours is super!
