Here's a one-layer card made to show that one-layer doesn't have to mean "plain." It required a little more time and planning, but was still relatively easy. I only used 3 stamps to create the scene, plus the sentiment.
I sponged several colors of blue for the sky. Then I inked up the tree trunk and some branches with brown, then inked up the top of the tree with light green, then dotted all over with a pink marker. After I stamped, I used the marker to add more pink dots and a brown pencil to define the tree trunk a little bit more.
Next, I used a small oval to mask the sentiment area and stamped two different grass stamps randomly around the tree. Then sponged green all over the grassy area. Finally removed the mask and stamped the sentiment.
All that was done on a separate piece of cs which I then attached to my navy card base. It still qualifies as one layer as all I added was ... one layer.
