Karen gave us Tempting Turqoise, Daffodil Delight, and More Mustard for an intriguing combination this week, based on a colourful African dress her daugher wore while on their recent safari. She gave us spring for dessert!
Originally I tried making a kind of African sunset image but it just wasn't working out (maybe I'll post an improved version later just for you, Karen!) So I came up with this more straightforward design instead.
I started with a circle that I diecut and sponged with Tempting Turqoise, along with a bit of Pool Party and Island Indigo. I used a branch die that I trimmed and brushed with a bit of black ink for definition, and then added tissue paper flowers that I punched with the Boho Blossom punch using two shades of yellow tissue (very close to Daffodil and Mustard.) I formed the flowers by nesting two pieces of punched tissue together and wrapping them around the point of my awl (you could also use the tip of your tweezers or other pointy object.) I dabbed each blossom with my glue pen and placed each of them on the branches with my tweezers. They came out looking somewhat like the forsythias I intended!
Then came the tricky part. I cut a black frame using two nestie circles, then cut the same size circle from a piece of white cs that I intended to place over the main image. A few nudges and measurements later, I glued the black frame onto the front panel, added some ribbon and a sentiment underneath, and carefully attached the whole piece to the cardfront with foam stickers. Phew, it actually turned out pretty straight for once!
I can't believe it's the last week of March already and my last week as a guest designer with the colour team. It's been so enjoyable and I've been so inspired by everyone's creations! I have to admit, too, that it's been soooo nice to have several days advance notice for the challenges so I can actually get my card made and posted on time! I do so appreciate all the kind comments and encouragement from so many of you; this is a great community to be a part of. I'll be sticking around!
