This weeks Mix-Ability Challenge was all about water...I really appreciated Dina's video of several different techniques for playing in the wet stuff! The only part I didn't like was waiting for my medium to dry...hence my Sunday entrance.
I chose to use watercolor pencils for my Hymn/Scripture Challenge #3. It is the hymn My Faith Looks Up to Thee. I am doing the challenge this year in an actual hymnal...I've done altered books before and I'll tell you, it's addictive...not to mention fabulous to have your art bound in one place. Anyway...back to my watercolor vision...
Using watercolor paper, I stamped Flourishes Clouds background image onto the paper from several different angles. I embossed with cream ep. At the beginning, I was going for a cloudy sky looking up, but as I laid on the watercolor pencils and kept blending and blending and blending what I saw was how it must be looking down from above...our earthy home...a far BIGGER picture than the one I am looking at. But as with so many projects of the {HEart} go, I tore the edge into a more spherical shape. Stamped a cross (Anna Griffin) above, stamped it again and then wrapped my name around the cross.
On the hymn side of my spread, I used my telescope to further the vision of looking up. It was a sweet serendipity that the phrases in the hymn were thought provoking to me. The lens of the scope is UPcycle acetate. Don't throw that away...so many fun ways to create with it! I used a wonderful bronze hand with a finger pointing UP in place of the word. The tab was cut with one of Tim's marvelous edges using Basic Grey's Koshi paper. I placed "3" buttons down the side to symbolize the number three and also Father, Son, and Spirit. I like to repeat three's to honor the Trinity. There is also a tea bag saying: May your inner self be secure and happy.
Thanks for reading my long description if you did...and enjoy your day. Our weather here is brilliant, sun shining, temps mild...but not matter the outside...inside I've got that peaceful easy feelin'. I dearly appreciate your comments.

Just love that you are doing the challenge in a hymnal! How absolutely wonderful! It will certainly be amazing by the time we are done this year! Wow! Thanks for sharing, and love the charm with the finger pointing up. Perfect!

Yes. I read the whole thing. You definitely have an "outside the box mind" Susan, and there is always rhyme and reason to the entire thing. Such an artist. I LOVE your Basic Grey paper with the three buttons. I knew right away what they were for. This is great!

Ohmygoodness, I LOVE that you are altering a hymnbook! If I ever have an extra one, that is something I would love to do... mine are too precious right now though! Love the encouragement and truth in hymns, especially being far from home - hymns were such a sweet part of my childhood and family life.

I've never done an altered book and would not know where to begin but this is so powerful and mind provoking! I read it all too. The thought that went into this and the creativity is mind boggling. This is such a fabulous creation. I love your style.

I've thought of altering a book but never got the nerve up to do it-what a great idea to to your hymn challenge right in the hymnal! Love the pretty cloud paper you created.
