The owl is a pattern I made up myself but I was inspired by an applique shirt on Pinterest for the use of hearts.
For the owl I cut a rectangle with SpellbinderÂ’s small Nestabilities (the third one in the set out of five). The top of the owl is cut with a circle large Nestabilities (also the third in the set of five), fit it to the cardstock on so that both top corners of the rectangle are on the cutting blade of the die and I used repositional tape to hold it in place and only rolled in to make the cut and backed out so the tape doesnÂ’t leave an impression. The bottom of the rectangle is cut with a corner rounder punch from EK Success.
The large black border of the eyes were cut with Nestabilities, Marvy ½” punch for the large white, circles from the Cuttlebug Asterisk set for the small black border and white and Tiny Tags for the 1/8” top circle.
The nose is a Stampin Up ¼” square punch cut in half and layered together to create dimension then attached to the card.
The wings are EK Success punches.
The breast is an old Marvy top button punch.
The feet are a portion of a Martha Stewart snowflake punch.
The flower and leaves are from Fiskars border punches.
The branch is cut with a Sizzix die.
Sentiment panel and borders are all Stampin Up punches.
The Cuttlebug folders Love Language and Herringbone were used for embossing. The negative embossing technique was used to color the pink with the embossed hearts. Ink up the negative side of the folder (flat), insert the paper and run through the machine and I run forth and back about three times for a good coverage. I used Stampin Up – Pink Passion ink.
The Perfect Layers tools from Perfect Paper Crafting was used to cut the large red border. Use any brand craft knife or rotary cutter for cutting. A tutorial video can be found on the company site.
I also used the Perfect Square tool to cut a 1/8” strip of cardstock for the border on the insert.
