This week's CAS challenge is inspired by a word: SCHOOL.
Kids are expected to meet certain benchmarks as they progress through school. The benchmarks are heavy on the academics, of course-- more easily assessed, I suppose. As an educator, IÂ’d chafe under all those expectations and assessments, hoping that whatever the kids learn in my classroom helped them become self-reliant, contributing members of their community. And keep things practical.
Since retiring, IÂ’ve volunteered in a first grade classroom taught by a friend and former colleague-- an incredibly brilliant, wise teacher named Shari. She makes it a practice for kids to learn to tie their own shoelaces, and wonÂ’t provide that service for them after winter break. Talk about a benchmark! Kids and parents really get on board with this one, and each child celebrates meeting his or her goal.
So. Congratulations to all who succeed in meeting their goals.

Oh Brenda!! This is absolutely fabulous!!!! I love your laced up bow on your card!!!! I love how you think outside of the box!!! We forget that learning to tie a shoe is a growth step too! Our little guy couldn't tie his shoes because of motor skill issues until he was about 10! It was a celebration when he learned!!!

A great little story that explains your sweet interpretation of today's CAS challenge. A wonderful row of colorful shoes with fabulous stitching to inspire those little ones.

This is adorable! I love your stamp.
I have to say I so admire people who are teachers. Now or retired! It takes a special person. I was so fortunate to have some great teachers when I was a child growing up. So thanks for all you did for our children and what you continue to do.

What a wonderful life goal moment for those kids! Your card is a delight and such a clever way to congratulate those who make it to the benchmark Shari has set!
