This card is based on the sketch by Korin. I got a late start today, as I had to take my Mother to the doctors. Anyway, It really did start out almost exactly like the sketch, but then sometimes you have to follow the path that calls to you.
I tried brayering (again) Blech, still a mess! So I got out my chalks and was going to do either a night scene in the mountains or something to that effect. So I started with my blue chalks. I went to red next thinking I could make a little purple. Then, after the red, the yellows. As I started to stamp my evergreen trees, it made me think of the Colorado wildfires. This is how the skyline looks, the fire is yellow-orange then the smoke is very dark above and in the middle you often see a pinkish purple layer of the fire's light reflecting off of the thick smoke.
Colorado has had a rough time of it lately. I lived in Greeley briefly in my childhood. I have fond memories of building the largest snow forts ever! It is a gorgeous state and I am praying for much happier days ahead for them.
Thank you for stopping by to take a peek!

Kathleen, this is awesome! Great job with the sketch. It does bring to mind the terrible fires...so much loss.

Kathleen, what an awesome interpretation of today's sketch challenge. I have never seen how the sky looks in a wildfire except on TV, and it sure looks like you captured it. It only goes to show that sometimes Mother Nature's most beautiful shows are when she is behaving badly. This card is gorgeous!

Your card is gorgeous Kathleen!! I love the silhouette on the pretty colors that you've used. It sure is sad what the state of CO has had to go through. I think the whole nation could use prayers as well. The weather has been so freaky everywhere. I'm glad you're safe.

How wonderful this sunset is, Kathleen!! While the fires have been devastating, especially to property/homeowners, it is what the forest needs to rejuvenate. This scene is wonderful, as it shows the glory that comes with the suns setting!

This is a totally unique and unexpected interpretation of the sketch..it never would have occurred to me to do a gorgeous sky like this one. I think you really got it right about the wildfires..it is a totally orange bottom layer and then blue sky appears on top..very in depth thinking on that one. Stunning card!

It's so amazing where our imagination can take us at times. And you started in a different direction but ended up with this amazing work of art! Wowzers! I will never forget the wild fire in Temecula, CA in 2000 when we lived there. I don't recall seeing any beauty, only ashes floating around and falling everywhere. The smoke was horrible!
