This is for the Technique Lovers Challenge (TLC374)-Stamping Nostalgia! I dug way down into my oldest supplies and into my memory for some of the first techniques I learned beyond simply stamping and coloring. This is a Mary Jo McGraw technique called cracked tile. I stamped a Laurel Burch/All Night Media sun (my first stamp ever, c. 1997) in red and orange then sponged clear embossing ink over the whole thing, layered on several layers of clear embossing powder (and a few sprinkles of Egyptian Gold for good measure) and heat embossed, then folded the image into squares, cracking it. I dabbed a brown pad over the image so the ink got to the paper in between the cracks, and wiped the rest off the embossed part. Finally I layered it on to some more cardstock, and used a corner punch to make little notches that I strung with embroidery floss (had to improvise for ribbons back then!). I looked and looked for gold metallic thread in my collection, as that was always my go-to choice for the notched corner border, but couldn't find any!

I love the extra sparkle the gold gives in your tiles. I had a loan of some Mary Jo McGraw books from a friend in work - she has the most fabulous techniques!
