Journaling: Point Arena Light Station is roughly 90 miles north of San Francisco. The original lighthouse was built in 1870, but was damaged beyond repair in 1906 by an earthquake. A new 115 foot tower was built of reinforced concrete in 1908. The original staircase, all 145 steps and the Fresnel lens were reinstalled. The lens is six feet in diameter weighing more than two tons. it contains 666 hand-ground glass parts and brass framework, all built in France. In 1992, the film "Forever Young" was filmed at Point Arena. A gazebo is the only reminder the film stars and crew were there for eight days.
