When I looked at the site Sharon selected for the Joyful Meditations challenge (SIC11, I was not only inspired by an album cover showing a beautiful autumn scene, but also by the soothing music. Fall in the Adirondack Mtns. of New York came to mind, and especially our visit to Lake Placid several years ago, where we saw the magnificent Ski Jumping complex, one of the sites of the 1980 Olympics.
Left side: “One of the many cool things we did near Lake Placid was visit the Olympic Jumping Complex. We took an elevator to the top of the Olympic ski jumps, and as you can from the photos, they are HIGH!! The views are spectacular and you can stand right where the ski jumpers are before they make their jump! (You had to climb another set of stairs to get up there, and I got a little case of acrophobia, so I let the guys go up without me!) The view was quite amazing where I stood. a,c,e,g,j: Different views of the two ski jumps. They are quite impressive, both close-up and from a distance. d,f,i.k: views from the top.”
Right side: “We didn’t get to the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Bobsled Run because it was raining and cold, but the guys did get to have their pictures taken in a bobsled on display at the Jumping Complex (#1, 7). I have been there before, though, having gotten a tour while my sister, Lisa, was working for the 1980’s Winter Olympics Committee in Lake Placid. #3,4,6,11,12: Different views of the jumps show just how tall they are.
Lower right journaling: # 8,9: An added bonus was that there were some “hot dog” skiiers training and we were able to watch them on smaller jumps (they landed in water!) #5: There were also a few ski jumpers practicing on the big jumps. They all wore wetsuits.”
