Homemade Sewing Caddy and Pin Cushion for a friend for Christmas.
Start with a craft paintbucket, found at a craft store. Essentially took measurements and drew out a sketch of what I wanted, figuring out measurements for pockets, inside layer, outside flaps, and so on.
I started with a circle for inside base...each caddy cover layer is double sided with batting inside each piece. Added sides for inside layer, sewing together with base. The only part without inside batting are the pockets and ties and trim.
Create 2 outside flaps of equal size, adding pockets. To one I added two roomy pockets and a scissor slot. The other side two pockets and two slender pencil/seam ripper slots. Both pocket flaps have black elastic along the bottom designed for holding thread spools.
Next added two separate outside flaps, which come out over the bucket on either side of the handle. I decided to add a scallop trim along top as I didn't know how the two connecting pieces would look along the top.
After adding flaps I decided to add ties down both sides. Each flap has 3 ties down both sides. I added additional scallop trim to connect the gaps between each flap behind the ties when sewing together. Because the bucket is clear you can see all the imperfections.
I am not a person who sews much...but this was a fun project that I know will have good results!

My goodness!! Looks like a lot of sewing to me; but what a WONDERFUL job you did with this. It looks sooooo impressive. My sewing machine's main purpose these days is to stitch on paper!!
