I come from a long line of sewers. My grandfather and 2 generations prior were tailors. My mom was a sewer extraordinaire and the tradition continued with my sister and myself. At the start of a new school year my mom would make my sister and I new outfits to wear on the first day of school. We loved spending time leafing through pattern books to pick out our new ensemble. That is where my inspiration came from for today's sketch.

Oh that is just precious. My family is chock full of seamstresses, too. Unfortunately, I can't even figure out how to thread the bobbin on my sewing machine! LOL

This is just darling. Every detail is perfect from the zigzag border to the tiny dresses on the 'ruler' panel. And the coloring on the little girl is awesome too! I love the background story about your inspiration.

What a darling card in bright lime and turq, Polly. What happy memories you have about sewing and the seamstresses/tailors in your family. Love all the little details on your card with the "laid out pattern" bg.
Brilliant! Your ideas are perfection for this sketch! I adore every little detail ... from the tape, to the pattern, dresses, stitching, buttons ..... everything! The stamp is too precious - what an amazing card! I love it (and I don't sew at all!)

What an adorable card! I remember those days when my Mom would take me to pick out material and a pattern. Our fabric store was J.C. Penneys. My favorite was always plaid. I wish I had gotten just a little of my Mom and my Great Aunt's talent but it just seems to make me nervous. I never could cut the pieces out just right. Now I make quilts but cheat with a rotary cutter and ruler. My Mom always liked McCalls patterns the best as she thought the others were harder.
