Here's my entry for the "Steampunk" theme for PAT 16. I loved creating this card, as steampunk is currently one of my favorite design trends.
I started with a base of watecolor paper, which I covered with vintage dictionary text and then layered over that a vellum background image that had some steampunk-esque elements. I stamped an image of a skinny vintage ruler multiple times, then cut it out, mitered the corners (well, mostly) and adhered it as a border on the background.
The two metal elements in the top corners are actually picture hangers that I ripped off a damaged frame I had, distressed them with paint, and then added some vintage watch gears to them. The main image that hangs down (from both a loop of waxed linen and a bit of chain) is a stamped image on kraft paper that I colored with oil pastels and cut out. I added a wind-up handle (what is that called?) and some more watch gears layered with mica to the bottom of the airship and hung is up. The final element is a group of gears that I stamped, cut out and adhered to the side (oh, and I clock face rub-on placed on the airship!).
