This is a card I made for Father's day for my FIL. While we do not celebrate Memorial Day in Canada, we celebrate Rememberance Day for our Veteran's on November 11th. I initially chose this image for my Father in law because he has always had a love for the sea, and decorated the family home in a nautical theme. As I was making it, I remembered that my father in law lied about his age - he was just 17 and got into the Canadian Navy during WW11. There are not a lot of Veteran's left from World War 11 - but my FIL is one of them. He told me that he went to Hong Kong aboard a Canadian Warship back in WW2. This year in Canada we are celebrating the Cenntenial of Canada's Navy - and we have stamps and coins commerating that anniversary.
It took me about 30 copics or more to colour this in!!! Anyway - as flowergal36 has said - every card has a story -and I realized the link between the nautical theme that I was using and my FIL's love of all things nautical and his pride in fighting for Canada in WW2.
Thanks for looking!!

What a fantastic scene, wonderfully colored! It's great to hear the story behind the card, a reminder that we have people in many different countries to thank for our freedom, it's been a combined effort!

Very nice card - love your colors (wish I had 30 Copics to use on a card!). What a cool story about your FIL - he sounds like a very special person. How special you get to hear the stories first hand.

Aww Debzi this card is stunning and filled with so much love with your wonderful story. God Bless the men and women who joined the military for WWII and brought freedom to us all. Your coloring is impeccable and you have created a masterpiece. I am sure your FIL will treasure this. It is pretty enough to frame my friend.

This reminds me of Light House park My dad fought in WWII as well, though was in Czecho at the time and saw the Germans and then the Russian invade there. Hard to even imagine what they went through. I'm sure he'll love it!

My brother came over from England last November and was wearing a red Poppy. That is what they buy as a donation and wear for that holiday you are talking about, I think. I love your beautifully colored scene Deb.

That's a lotta copics!!! Lotsa life in your card and your story. Love all the earthy shades in your grass area. My dad was a navy man too, but after the war. That's why I was born in Halifax, NS.
