I made this card for Gina's Center Stage Spotlight Designer Challenge on her blog. Yeah, I know it is a long shot, but I actually was able to purchase a few sets this past release and don't know when I will be able to play again so I had to give it a try. The challenge was to make a card inspired by your favorite movie using the sets from the latest release.
This card draws inspiration from both of my favorite movies: Return to Me & Hot Fuzz. Return to Me is such a touching romantic comedy written by Bonnie Hunt about a man who loses his wife in a tragic car accident and then unknowingly falls in love with the woman who receives her heart as a transplant. They have this dog, Mo, who does not handle the loss well and constantly waits for his Mom to come home by the door. I used the adorable dog image from 'Welcome Home' to represent the dog, colored like our little furbaby, who eagerly waits by the door every day for his Daddy to come home from deployment.
My other fave, on the much lighter side, is a comedy called Hot Fuzz starring Simon Pegg - FUNNY! FUNNY! FUNNY! In a clever kind of way, not a slapstick kind of way. I highly recommend this one as well if you have not seen it. One of the many premises of the movie is that a main character who is a police officer, is forced to relocate to a little town in the country because he is making all of his colleagues in London look bad by having a 400% higher arrest record than any other police officer. When he gets there, he discovers the townspeople are obsessed that everything in their village is perfect so that they will win the "model village contest" ever year. I represented this the row of perfect petite little houses from the new "Welcome Home' set as well.
I added some personal touches to the card by using a paper piercer to create some holes and then tying a few strands of yellow embroidery floss through them #the 'yellow ribbon' as we wait for my hubby to return# and added the sentiment incorporating the "dad" from "Masculine Messages" - Gina's current 'one free with three' set. I took a scrap of green cardstock and cut 'grass' into it and pulled up some of the blades for some texture and dimension. The fence and part of my furbaby were colored in with a white gel pen. It will be a welcome home card from our furbaby to my hubby when he FINALLY returns from his loooong deployment late in the summer.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my card.
