The inspiration for this card came from one of my most memorable walks with my Dad, late one Christmas Eve at Jasper Park Lodge. They do a marvelous job of decorating the trees there with so many lights that itÂ’s absolutely magical. That night, after everyone else went to bed, weÂ’d bundled up for our late night walk. It was a perfect winterÂ’s night, calm, snow covered and stars shining in a clear sky. We hadnÂ’t gone far before we turned a corner and came upon a small herd of elk. We stopped walking and talking just looked at each other and those incredibly beautiful animals in the quiet and stillness. It was quite breathtaking and a moment IÂ’ll never forget. After some time Dad and I carefully and quietly backed up around the corner and walked a different path. I recall that we spoke of how moments like that are so rare in oneÂ’s life and a gift in themselves. My Dad passed away in 2001, so while there havenÂ’t been any midnight winter walks with him for some time, my memories keep him very near and dear to my heart.
