This card is for my DD's best friend (who we now call our "other daughter). Her birthday is in a couple of weeks and she just loves Giraffe's. I also thought that it would fulfill this challenge in two ways, two of the Giraffe's on the front panel are on foam mounting tape and then one Giraffe 'pop's' up out of the top of the card.
To make the base of the card I followed the Wiper Card tutorial in the Resources section here at SCS but used Australian card sizes (5 7/8" x 8 1/4"). This allowed me to make a longer Wiper which helps when you have a 'long' neck or a larger image that you want to have come out. It also equates to a square card when finished.
To make the front panel, I measured the space that I had and cut my piece of Bashful Blue CS to be 6mm (1/4") smaller than that. I then sponged on some White ink for clouds, low-lighted(put it underneath) that with some Sky Blue and Baja Breeze inks at the top. At the bottom I sponged on some Certainly Celery ink where I was going to put the trees and to give the impression of trees in the distance. I used my Tombow Markers in shades of green and brown to do the Tree from the Le Jardin Botanique set. For the leaves, to get some variation in colour I used the Thumping technique. I then huffed (very technical term, lol!) on the stamp and stamped the trees at various heights, hand drawing in longer trunks where necessary. I did the same to the Wiper piece.
I stamped out 5 Giraffe Neck's onto Whisper White CS with the Stone Grey ink. I then coloured them in with the Tombow's and an Aqua Painter, changing browns on their spots to make them all individual. Next, I cut them out and stuck two of them directly to the front panel, I then stuck two more to this with foam mounting tape at various heights. I stuck the final Giraffe to the Wiper. I cut their necks to be level with the edge of the card.
I cut a piece of Bashful Blue and a piece of Apricot Appeal CS to be 6mm (1/4") smaller than the smaller panels. I sponged the Bashful Blue piece with matching ink and stamped Happy Birthday on it with Baja Breeze ink. On the Apricot Appeal piece, I sponged it in matching ink and, using the Graceful Letter's template, I wrote my message.
