I made this card for today's Technique Lover's Challenge, Gesso Resist. I didn't have any Gesso and like many, I barely have two pennies to rub together, so I made my own....sort of. I thought from Lynn's description that I could mix glue with something else, like chalk,...but the only chalk I have is sidewalk chalk. Maybe I could grind up some Tums?
Well, I ended up using plain old Elmer's glue and mixed it with Shower to Shower body powder. It worked fairly well. The embossing powder wanted to stick all over, but I like the paint splattered look. I have no patience and did dry mine with a hair dryer but kept it at least a foot away from the magazine paper.
I am not a big fan of lace and pearls, but I hope the older lady I'm sending it to will be. I almost didn't upload it because it looks so 'granny'...ahem, I mean Victorian...just not my style. But I don't know...the more I look at it, the more I like it. I suppose variety is the spice of life. TFL!

Absolutely beautiful! Look at you improvise...awesome job with that...it certainly worked well with this project. Thanks so much for playing along today...it really is a lovely design. The lace is such an elegant touch!

Oh my goodness. Your rocked this challenge. I looked at the Gesso. It was expensive. I decided to not play. Now I am rethinking. This is incredible. Best card yet. Your friend will love this. Way to go with the improvise.

Careful there LeisaJane! I don't consider myself quite in the "granny" category yet and I think this is GORGEOUS!!!! LOL! Don't think "old" & "granny" when you see lace & pearls - think of class, femininity, elegance & romance. Women of all ages can surely appreciate those ideals. Love your card and how you created your Gesso. I'm stealing your idea!

Leisa, Lace and Pearls are my favorite. I guess I'm old. You should know, I'm your mom. Kidding aside, I love this card and I want you to show me how to do it and I guess we will mix up glue and bath powder. No pennies here either!!

Wow! How creative you are to come up with your own mixture! I'm not really into Victorian either but this card is wonderful...I especially love the stamping and coloring over the book print. I'm so into that lately! Really, I'm glad you uploaded your card!!
