I was inspired to make this by K athy Daume, SCS's own 20something. She has a wonderful tutorial on her blog.
I "cheated" a bit - instead of painting and varnishing a cookie sheet I found these already embellished metal serving trays at Walmart for only $4 (SCORE!) and used that as my background. I used a 1 3/4" punch, number punches and some DP to embellish the tins and followed Kathy's steps adhering the magnets to the tins with a glue gun. I wanted everything to be removing in case my friends want to repurpose everything.
In case anyone is new to the world of glue guns like me, I purchased a mini glue gun at Walmart and completing the project only took 5 mini glue sticks (I probably used more glue than I needed, but it was my first tie using the tool). Once I had everything out and ready to begin, the whole thing only took me 4 hours or so - not too bad right? Then there was a matter of filling the tins... I hope my friends like it.
Thanks for looking at my advent calendar, and thanks to Kathy for the GREAT tutorial!!
PS - Upon closer inspection it looks like I accidentally uploaded the picture of just the lids while I was waiting for the glue to dry on the magnets; it looks the same, only the lids obviously have more depth with the tins underneath them, you get the idea though, LOL.
