I made this card for the November VSN, “Cabaret”. Angie (SCS Renski) challenged us to create a “wow” featuring an animal stamp.
It was easy for me to make a choice – I’ve been itching to use this stamp since I got it! The animal I’m showing off is Our Spencer Tracy, better known as “Toughie”. He’s the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that I’m holding in my picture. Tough Nut is quite a special little guy, having survived two major neurosurguries after being born with a catastrophic brain malformation.
I stamped the image twice, once in black, once with silver and then embossed with Stardust. On the image stamped in black, I used watercolor pencils to color the dog and then I cut the dog out.
On the iridescent image, I cut out just the boxÂ…. I cut away the dog and the ribbons.
I pieced the parts together right on the cardstock and added a “real” bow (instead of the stenciled and painted one). Upon discovering that I had not properly centered the gift box, I used an edge punch to make a piece of trim to make it appear more centered.
I made my own greeting and Merry WHATEVER was used with a specific recipient for this card in mind.
Although this is basically a fast and simple card to make, for some reason I ran out of time and so I didnÂ’t get to add any bling! IÂ’m going to do that after IÂ’ve photoÂ’d and posted pictures of it as it exists now.
Check my blog later in the week for more details on putting this together and especially about painting the dog.
Thanks Angie, for finding a way for me to finally put watercolor to this beautiful stamp!
