I made this card for the October (200 VSN Mini Cabaret Challenge “The Understudy. Our challenge was to create a card that had at least 5 layers.
Well, I got in the 5 layers and then some! The card base is white card stock onto which I layered a gray swirl print designer paper and then centered over that, a piece of silver pearl card stock. On top of that I placed a third layer, a square of plain white card stock embossed with CuttlebugÂ’s snowflake folder.
The mittens and snowflake elements were cut using the Cricut Expressions “Joys of Christmas” cartridge. I stamped, edge, stamped with the stamping off technique, and embossed the mittens (visit my blog for details) and decorated them with bows and pearls. I used 1/16 inch pop dots to attach the mittens. I used a 1/8 inch pop dot to elevate the snowflake. The snowflake is two separate layers separated by a pop dot and finished off with a crystal rhinestone. (Does that count as a layer, I wonder ?)
This should have been a very quick and easy card, but I lost a lot of time when I went to attach the snowflake and discovered that I had glued the mittens backward (with the left mitten on the right side, and right mitten on the left). I destroyed one of the mittens in the process of removing them to re-orient them and had to cut and stamp another one. That left me no time to make a separate panel for the greeting, which I had planned to do. There were some other glitzy touches that I didn’t add early in the process to save time. I hope to make a “More is More” version of this card later this week.
Total time to make this card – 42 minutes
