I borrowed the idea of using the Top Note and Scallop Envelope dies (from karineb) to make a backpack for my daughter's first grade teacher. Yesterday was the first day of school, and they were supposed to wear red in her class, so we made a red backpack. For the backpack (minus flap and pocket), I started with a 7X11 piece of cardstock and scored at 1", 2", 5-1/4", 6-1/4", 7-1/4", and 10-1/2". I rotated the paper 90 degrees and scored at 2". I cut up to this 2" line and folded in the bottoms of the backpack. I did not cut along those score lines that form the mid-line of the side flaps (hope that makes sense). I scored the Top Note die at 1/4" on either side of the points at the middle of the "note." and then trimmed one end to fit inside the back of the backpack. I recommend using sticky strip when assembling. I used sticky strip to hold down the ribbon inside the pack. You can hold the flaps down with self-adhesive velcro, or the mono-multi adhesive (let it dry first, then it is "repositionable"). We tucked a cello bag full of chocolate inside the pack, and my daughter wrote a note for her teacher, which was tucked into the front pocket. I think this is a great way to show the versatility of these dies!
Thanks for looking, Susan

omigosh! this is so far beyond "stinkin' adorable!" that it isn't even funny! I love, love, love how you used the diecuts for TopNote and scallop envie to do this project! May I ask how long it took you? I am thinking this would be a fantastic stamp club project AND I have both of those dies. What a great idea and how cute to tuck some little treats in for a special gift for someone. One of my coworkers for the past 3 years is leaving next week and I'm taking her out to lunch this Friday...maybe if I get my act together quickly I could come up with something like this for her. She's a SB'er and has looked thru my SU catty and ordered a couple of times...wonder if I could fit some little SU items into the package for her as a little farewell gift that I know she would like and use in her SB's. How very clever!
Thank you so much for sharing and for giving the specifics of the "how to's". This is great! Jan

I like your choice of ribbon though - wish I'd gone that route! I also like the clean-look your 'pack' has with just the lid of the pouch being designer paper.
Well done, and I should say: great minds think alike, eh? ;)
