It's Sabrina here as your hostess this week. I have two strings to my challenge this week - it's inspired by the fact that today marks the anniversary of Thomas Edison perfecting the carbonised cotton filament light bulb, in 1879. Edison’s successful design came only after he had tested over 6,000 different vegetable fibers during a span of over 18 months running 1,200 experiments and spending $40,000. Talk about patience and perseverance! We spent a few family holidays in a house where there was still only gas light, with those so fragile mantles. Sure makes you appreciate a bulb!
Also it's next Sunday when the clocks "fall back" here in Europe, and the following week in the US, so for us in the Northern hemisphere we will have longer, darker evenings - let's get ready ahead of time and lay in a stock of some virtual light ahead of time.

Use images of lightbulbs or lamps. Since we are commemorating Edison's achievement, sunlight doesn't count for this challenge, but at a pinch candles are fine - knitting or reading by candlelight certainly makes you appreciate a filament bulb, or the more modern replacements. If you have chibitronics or anything similar, feel free to make a light-up card. We have a basic tutorial for Chibitronics HERE, and there are plenty of more advanced ones online using slider and pull-tab mechanisms, which are great fun. I made a little light-up tag book for DH's birthday card this year with a light on each tag and on the covers, which he left open till the battery had run down, LOL.
Once you've created your card for our Light It Up challenge, upload it with the keyword WT815, and then come back and share a link here - that makes it easy for people to find your card in case of a typo or any other gallery glitches.
Yay - the good news is that the forum upgrade is, hopefully, happening on Oct 26th if all goes well and linking should be a whole lot easier after that. Here's hoping.
If you're not sure how to add a link, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one for your card in the gallery, and one for this thread
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Fun challenge Sabrina. I went with a Christmas light theme, but lightbulbs do deserve a little notice, and we usually only appreciate them in their absence during a power outage.

Great challenge Sabrina, thank you! For my card I drew a lamp lit up to shine light on my jack-o-lantern. Added a small black cat, and a handwritten sentiment. Background is a pop up haunted mansion display from the kids' childhood- so spooky! Here's All Aglow

This challenge is celebrating Thomas Edison and the discovery of the light bulb, so my card features candles...a common way to provide light prior to Edison's discovery.
