any ideas of how to make the coluzzle cutter work better??

1. You must peel the backing off the template is the first and foremost. I had one for years and could never get it to work until a friend told me I needed to remove that off the back.

2. You will get the best results if you cut on the foam pad that comes with it. Sounds odd, but it honestly does help.

If you do both of these you will have great results!

Try holding the knife straight up and down.

When I use mine, it seems the little blade turns into the template plastic, and makes a nick in it. The blade won't stay straight. I know it's supposed to swivel a little, but it has now made my template nicked to the point where it's difficult to get the blade around the entire pattern without it "stalling" on me in a nick. Frustrating. Anything I can do to fix this?

The blade has a little guard, a white plastic tab in front that isn't supposed to come off. Coluzzle pattented that so the Fiscars ones don't work as well with your Coluzzle system. The guard keeps the knife from cutting into the plastic as long as you are holding the knife straight up and down and holding it through the template as far as it will go.. So don't break off that little plastic tab, it belongs on the blade...

This is what mine has done as well,it makes me soo :-x !

You can fix the little nicks with a soft (wood) nail file. Just make sure you file in one direction only, and it will be gone in no time.

Also, you might want to be sure you're not applying too much pressure. This can sometimes be a problem, too. And make sure your blade is nice and sharp--if you nick your templates a lot, it will dull the blade faster.

I do like the CM for circles, but Coluzzle has a tag template that I use all the time and they have more circle sizes. Getting rid of it, isn't an answer for me.

Becky -- Thanks for the tip about the white plastic piece, my blade had it but it looked worn down compared to the replacement tip I just put in.

If my template is a little too nicked, I turn the template over...but definitately holding the blade straight up and down works for me -- it is just very hard to judge if I am really holding it that way :)

You might also try rubbing your paper with a piece of waxed paper before you begin cutting; this may make the blade slide more easily...I know this is suggested for dry embossing, which requires a similar technique.

I love my Coluzzle too :)

Don't forget to remove the plastic coating off both the front and the back of the template. One tip I got from the Provocraft forums is to use some really sticky tape to get it started (duct tape works best for me).

I also bought the library pocket and pocket card templates and can't wait to try them. The mini envelope one works great!

What is it you do with the Duct tape?

The duct tape will help you get started pulling the protective coating off of the template.
